buying a horse

? Amy, what do you know about Keeneland?

- All the trainers I know run horses at Keeneland although they aren't based there - it's a pain when Keeneland has to take over so many of the barns to accomodate horses entered in their huge sales, making training stables move their horses around, so not too many trainers are actually based there.

It's highly advisable to have a very experienced horseman help you choose a horse - to claim, buy privately, or at auction. You can get a bargain at Keeneland or Fasig Tipton but it's never a sure thing, you must have someone who knows the people involved with the horse, knows what to look for in a horse, knows how to spot problems, and knows what a horse should be worth.

buying a horse is tuff anyone can buy a horse but to get the right one first, check feelings at the door. because to make a profit you might have to sell after a win or sell before you run. but profit is profit and proceed. claiming is the fastest way to go, but you get a trainer established at a track that is high profile, watching horses race every day, it might take at least a month of watching before you make a move. buying a horse outright is recommended - going to fla. at the turn of the year, calder to gulfstream, lot of horses arent eligible to run there but very competitive 20000-10000 claiming maidens anywhere. good time to buy but have a horseman you trust!

if you are are thinking of buying a horse off of mark bliss or j. robbin berol you had better think twice . the will sell you a horse and ship you a differnt horse. then you are stuck with it unless you are willing to go to new york and sue them and it will cost more to sue them than you paid for the horse. this just a word of advice. the sell under several differnt stabe names.

I can't believe I came across this information about Mark Bliss this AM.I am one of those people that bought a horse from him in May and am trying to get a refund and going through hell to try and get it. He sold me a horse that was supposed to be 6 and was 8yrs old and has a fractured sesemoid bone, and a fractured cannon bone and of course was supposed to suitable as an event horse. Thanks for the "heads up". Hopefully this will save someone else an unfortunate experience. SJ

i too purchased a horse from Mark bliss and got a different one with no papers and he still owes me $800.
The horse was to be sound and of course is now showing neurological problem.

Also don not pay him for hay as you will never get it.

I am another person that Mark Bliss has stolen from. He stole my TB gelding, sold him, and never gave me any money for my horse. I also boarded 2 layup horses for him and he wrote me a check and moved his horses and then immediately stopped payment on the check. I also hauled a horse and hay for him and he wrote a bad check for that. This man needs to be stopped and from what I've heard from many other people, he has been stealing for years. He's also known for sending horses to slaughter and selling the same horse to several people. I am pressing charges against him for the theft of my horse. Anyone who has been ripped off by this man, please call the Bedminster Police in Pennsylvania. We are building a case against him and the more people who call and tell their story the better the chances that Mark Bliss will be stopped. The officer at Bedminster Police is Officer Mark Thompson and his number is: 215-795-2972 ext 102. Thanks!

I also have filed charges against Mark Bliss with the Bedminster Police. Bliss sold me horses and the owners didn't know the animals had sold. Many were never paid for their horses. One I purchased, he appears to have sold, without my knowledge or permission, before I could ship it home. I have reported the TB mare J J's Special as stolen. Anyone knowing the where this mare is - I also am working with Officer Thompson. Bliss also does business as Roosevelt Stables and Poundridge Stables and advertises horses for sale at Handride.com - Everyone cheated by this man - please report it.

I too was a victim of a stolen horse. Harvey Ridge who is a partner in crime with Mark Bliss took my horse to sell for me. I never saw Harvey or my horse again-nor ever got paid.

I knew that mark bliss was fishy, very fishy. I am a proud and happy horse transporter of all types of horses, and when I was contracted by that so called horse person,he would never comit to anything,or pay his deposit, he kept changing his dates, and the number of horses to be moved. He would book a trip and then at the last min. cancel the trip. I have been trying to research him and i have found what I am looking for. He really smells fishy.I have a 100% sastifaction and I will keep it that way! No way will I transport any animal for mark bliss, or any of his partners. thanks for every ones input!!!!

mark bliss races his horses under twenty twenty racing stable.
his trainer is charles demario. he races at penn, delaware, philly. he will sell of these horses as sound when he is done with him and they are not. i also was sold a horse with a damaged knee (internal) as sound. if you buy a horse from him he will offer to run it for you on the east coast, charge you 25 a day training until you can pick up your horse. consider yourself lucky if you get a halfway sound horse. he posts on Handride OFTEN. Do not buy from him. Listen and learn.

I am yet another victim of Mark Bliss. He sold me a horse he guaranteed sound. Two days after the horse arrived, he could not walk. Turns out to be a sesmoid. He assured me he would make it good but never did. Then he quit answering my calls. Acts like he is a pro, and a pro he is. A pro con man. Very sad to think of what I could have done with that money he stole from me.

I'm so thankful I found this I was thinking of looking at a horse that was supposedly his, but after reading this I would never believe a word out of his mouth. WOW. I'm just so shocked. I'm so glad I researched him; I just had a bad hunch about the man. Please spread this information to all people thinking of purchasing or doing any business with Mark Bliss. Thank you all so much from saving me!

I used to work for Mark Bliss when he lived in Lititz,PA. I lived at his home with Mark and his wife. One day a horse came in from New Jersey. He told me that he wanted his horse "tested" right away. I was only 19 and very naïve. Little did I know that his wife thought I was a threat to her marriage and she had paid the trainer to have me hurt. The jumping started at night and not all of the lights in the ring were lit. This causes shadows and sometimes the horse will jump the shadow and not the actual jump. needless to say, the horse popped a 5 foot jump and I went flying, injuring my back. I was fired the next day and had to take a bus home to Towson, MD. When I came back to collect my things a few weeks later, I was told all of this. I also worked for Robin Berol when she had a farm in MD along with Gene Estep. She (at that time) was great. We would go back and forth from the Maryland farm to her farm in Bedford, PA called Cloister Farm.

There is an ad in The Chronicle now for a mare in foal to "Smarty Jones' best son" under the name of Blue Valley Farm. It appears this is this character Mark Bliss. I'm glad I found this site. Thank you for the heads up.
